noise when i acclerate you cant hear it as much because of engine noise but when its at idle the squealing noise is somewhat loud does anyone know what it could be ? its not the water pump because i bought it new and im not overheating and the belts arent too tight either i have already checked them

first off is the noise a squeal or a whine there is a difference. If it is a squeal then it could easily be one of the belts either the alternator or the power steering. Check your belt tension and make sure the belts are tight enough not to slip around the pulleys when they are under a load. If you have power steering start the engine and turn the steering wheel all the way to the stop either direction and apply pressure ot the steering wheel. This will load the power steering pump and help you ot determine if its the power steering belt or the alt. belt. The belts need to be tight bt not guitar string tight. If it is a whining sound instead of a squealing sound then I would remove the belt that drives the water pump and turn the pump by hand and pay close attention ot how it feels while you turn it. It should be extremely smooth. If you feel anything like a slight bumping or something of that nature it is possible even tho its a new water pump the impeller may be to far back and may be striking something inside the housing slightly. Even new parts can be defective.
Take the fan belt off and spin the water pump by hand. If it's dead silent make sure the new water-pump outer flange is holding the pulley directly over the pulley's on the crankshaft. If they aren't in perfect alignment or you hear noise tear the pump off and take it back. The outer pulley flange or noisy impeller makes it a candidate for a new pump. Why not get your money back from the whining pump and order a Stewart or Moroso aluminum racing pump for a few bucks more.
When I was a kid and had my 53 Chevy 2 dr hard top with a 327 Chevy engine in it. I remember it having a squalling. Kinda sounded like belts or pulley or alt. nope I found out what it was. It had just rained and for some reason the crank shaft seal or timing cover seal drys up and was making a squealing sound. All I did was squirt WD 40 and problem was fixed. But do remove the fan belts and start the engine as to try and eliminate the problem. Good luck
did u get a mechanic to do it? or do it your self? in case you had a mechanic do it, ask them to restoration it in case you had no issues previous. ought to be thermostat, ought to be you dont have sufficient coolant in radiator or perhaps appropriate coolant to water ratio. All i understand is you need to bleed out the radiator to get rid of all air after water pump is taken off and placed back on, because might reason issues aswell. ok nicely you in basic terms as much as date it, so i'm too, your mechanic sounds like a dumb ****, he might desire to have bled air out of radiator, the certainty he instructed you is strange, might desire to have fastened it then and there. that's an considerable step of fixing water pump. wow i loved my 72 chevelle! this kind of noise usually happens when one of the belts is not aligned properly. or one of the pulleys is not angled right. but if you didn't have the noise before i would suggest taking the belt on the water pump off and running the car briefly, if the noise goes away you've narrowed it to the water pump and its belt. sometimes though new pumps are noisy till they break in so this noise may go away after a while. enjoy that car. i hope this helps john
