Question:

1988 Jeep Wrangler Windshield Wiper help?

The windshield wiper motor decided to quit on me, today. I looked under the hood and I can not find the Windshield wiper Motor, I also cant seem to find an online owners manuel. If you could please tell me where the windshield wiper motor is located and the site of a good owners manuel. Thank you

Answer:

Not positive on the 88, but on the TJ it is below the cowl, under the wiper arms. I think the wiper motor assy is similar. Take off both wiper arms, and unscrew the cowl plate right under them. phillips heads along the windshield channel and where it mates to the hood gap. the motor is under there along with the vent intake.
Be sure it's not a bad ground or bad connection or bad wire etc before replacing that wiper motor and many times due to age and rust etc these bolts snap when you try to remove them or strip etc so if all possible try to find a good used wiper assembly and change it all at once , you'll find that is much less of a pain and the best especially dealing with such old vehicles. Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way I'am sure if you checked or called around that some auto wreckers has this assembly. If you do want to change the wiper motor only what I do is simply unplug the old one and plug the replacement in and then see if the motor is actually functioning fully and properly before installing it.
On the YJ its located behind the dash under the VIN number plate on the driver's side of the windshield. Kind of a pain in the *** to get to with a top on but you need to fold the windshield down and then its right there. There are six large torx bolts, three either side of the dash that hold the winshield in place. You want to remove the lowest bolt out of the three. Then you need to unbolt the roll bar from the windshield. You windshield should fold down but you may want to spray some PB Blaster on the hinges before trying to move the windshield, the hinges like to sieze.
