Question:

1990 Mazda Miata MX-5 car alarm?

I just bought a 1990 Mazda Miata. I believe this is a package B Miata. My problem is the alarm that came with it keeps arming itself that the siren would just go off without it being triggered. I don‘t want the alarm to be an annoyance to my neighbors so I cut the wire that goes to the siren. I am aware that this is not the solution to the problem. I want to completely un-install the alarm system but have no idea what kind of alarm I have. (previous owner doesn‘t have the manual). Can someone tell me what kind do I have. The setup is a 2 button type remote w/ I II on the buttons, a blinking red light on the center console just above the cup holder. It is not a keyless remote since the door locks are manually operated. My main concern is I don‘t know if this alarm comes with a starter kill switch, I know for sure that there are triggers installed on the hood, 2 doors and trunk of the car. Can someone please help me with instruction to properly uninstall this alarm. Thanks.

Answer:

Look under the dash, and find where the harness comes down from the steering column. More then likely there is a wiring block that has been inserted into that point, look for the matching wiring block that is part of the factory harness. It should be close at hand. Plug the factory block in where the the after market harness come out. There will be other wires, some with taps and plugs that tie in to the lights and such at different points of the car. Many are under the dash. More then likely the wires run down the drivers side under the carpet next to the door and back to the trunk to a unit located in front of the space saver spare. If a harness adapter was not used there will be several wire taps that need to be cut and maybe some wires in the factory harness that need to be re-spliced back together. Hopefully yours will be like the one I removed that used an adapter harness.
