Question:

1992 Ford Explorer - car alarm will not turn off?

I have a car alarm that i had installed in the car about 2 years ago. I replaced the battery in the car because it completly died and my remote does not work now with the alarm. I tried pressing the on/off button that is near the floor to turn it off but nothing happes. I can not take it to the place that I had it installed because I now live about 500 miles from them. I now basically just want to disconnect the damn thing. I have read previous posts about opening the dash and disconnecting the wires on the little black box. I have no idea how to open the dash. Can someone help me with that? Also, I read another answer to a post about checking under the hood for a small horn shaped box, follow the wire and cut the red wire? Is that true??I have a sound system that was installed at the same time, so I don‘t know if they connected the wires together or what. I need to drive this car ASAP because my other one died due to a breakin. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Answer:

Try holding the valet button (the on/off switch you spoke of) while you turn the ignition on. If that doesn't work. Try turning the ignition on and then holding the valet button a couple seconds. When it works you will notice the once blinking led on your dash will light up solid. One of those 2 ways disable most alarms.
the horn shaped thing is the one making the noise, it'll be pretty obvious as it's screaming. cut the wire black wire (because you don't want a red/positive wire hanging loose in your engine compartment to cause a short). that'll stop the noise. you may have an engine disconnect in the alarm system. can you start the vehicle? if it runs take it to an installer as soon as you have time. generally, sound systems will not share the same wiring as the alarm.
