Question:

1999 volkswagen jetta 2.0 water pump?

I've been looking online and can't find anywhere that tells me how to replace the water pump in my 1999 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0. Help please.

Answer:

I know yours is a Jetta, but most of the 'guts' are the same, and the ppl on this forum are very helpful. Also, a lot of them have other VW's and there's an area to discuss that. I second Tex's opinion that you'll need to do the TB at the same time. And make sure the replacement WP you get has METAL impellers, not plastic like the OEM crap. Good luck and hope to see you on the forum :)
okorder has a kit with everything in it for cheap money.
A manual will be handy to guide you through. It is a fairly extensive job. As a run down, you will need a big floor jack with a block of wood so you can put it underneath the oil pan. You need to do this so you can remove the motor mount that will be in your way. The water pump is driven by the timing belt. You will want to get a new t-belt, t-belt tensioner, rollers for timing belt, etc. Also note that when you are refilling system with coolant, there will be a lot of air in the system. If you don't have a tool that vacuums all the air and pressurizes the coolant through the system, you will have to keep topping off the coolant for a while until all the air escapes as you drive it. Hope this helps.
Go down to your local Auto Parts Store and ask for a Hayne's Manual for your car, this will show pics and explain in detail how to do just about ANYTHING on your car!
