Question:

2.5 ide hard drive enclosure connectors dont match?

I wanted to use my old laptop hard drive which is the MK6025GAS as an external hard drive so I got an ide enclosure but the connectors are different. Just wondering ehich kind of connector I need. Thanks for any help

Answer:

A 3.5, enclosure will not work, you need a 2.5 enclosure.
That row of flat blades is an interface adapter; simply pull it off to expose the IDE pins. If the drive is still in a carrier that's part of the laptop assembly, you may need to remove some screws to fully expose the drive to be able to pull off that adapter.
That's very odd. The MK6025GAS is a Toshiba 60Gb IDE hard drive. It should work. Silly suggestion.try turning the hard drive over? Maybe fits upside down instead of right side up? Make sure there aren't any cables in the way. Make sure no pins in the connector are bent. [EDIT:] Are you sure you bought a 2.5 IDE enclosure? The interface that you described sounds like a 3.5 IDE enclosure made for desktop/tower computer hard drives. Typically a laptop hard drive has an interface with a single row of pins or a single row of blade-type connectors fits only 2.5 IDE enclosures. Typically a desktop computer hard drive has a double row of pins, fits only 3.5 IDE enclosures. Both are IDE interfaces. [/EDIT]
