Answer:

In the winter I change the tires on my commuter bike to carbide-studded ones. You can find them in all ranges and by several brands. I have some by Nokian, and they are great. A little more expensive, but totally worth it. In the winter out here you will leave in the morning to sunshine and 40 degrees F, and then a few hours later a surprise ice storm blows through and its 7 degrees and there's 2 inches of ice on everything. :) So, having expensive winter tires has saved my tail quite a few times, I feel! Keep your chain lubricated, and remember there's a lot of sand and salt on the roads during winter that will be kicked up onto your bike, so you will need to be vigilant about maintenance. Fenders help tremendously to keep a lot of the road crud off of you. Beyond that, wear LOTS of reflective gear, have a good set of lights and good thermal wear. Some people in my cycling club wear ski goggles when it gets below 20 degrees F, so you might consider that. Protect your ears with something under your helmet; don't try to wear a hood because it will be useless and obstruct your peripheral vision Good luck and be safe!
It's a safety matter, nothing to do with religion. You may well have worked places that allowed it before, but most places will tell you to have long hair tied back and wear trousers, so nothing gets caught in the machine. I work in a restaurant that doesn't allow wedding rings, because they've had two cases where a ring fell into the food, or someone didn't clean under their ring after handling food, and someone got salmonella from a steak. It's not discrimination, it's common sense.
Get a trainer that you can put you bike on and turn it into an exercise bike.
