2000 Pontiac Gran Prix Service Engine Soon light stays on How can I find out the problem?

Answer:

i own a repair shop, and you can take it by any auto zone and they will scan it free of charge and tell you what is causing it to do this, and yes it is free,no strings attached, but this is the best way to find out for sure, don't buy nothing until you know what it is for sure, good luck i hope this help.s,,PS it rumor that o Riley's auto parts is going to start doing this service also,
if you go to the local auto zone, or oreilly's or advance auto parts, they will scan it for free. this will tell you the fail code, and give you an idea of the problem. if you have an oxygen sensor code, for example, do not assume that it is bad. another failed system could be causing that sensor to read outside of it's designed parameters, therefore turning on the mil.(malfunction indicater light). replacing that sensor without proper diagnosis will not fix the car. you will be wasting $$$. it could be something simple like a loose gas cap. in that case, the fail code would be p0440. these places do this for free, in the hopes that they can sell you a part to fix it. keep in mind that in 99.9% of the case, electrical parts are not returnable. good luck.
Have a GM experienced tech scan it. Experience counts when dealing with SES light on
