Question:

8 in 1 card reader?

I bought a laptop with an 8 in 1 card reader but the card slot looks like it will only accept SD card. How can I use this with my memory stick? Do I need an adaptor. Or am I missing something?

Answer:

with an 8 in 1 the 2 most common are sd and sony stick duos. It will fit in there but do not wedge it in, because u might break it. Also make sure you are putting it into the right reader because the sd and duo are different sizes. Try looking above or below the sd reader :)
For some sockets, you can insert memory card directly and some you need adaptor. For adaptor normally inside the box will have it
Most card formats are the same size as a number of other card formats. It is possible that your card reader can read 8 kinds of cards that are the same size as SD cards, and not Sony Memory Sticks. Check the manual that came with it.
carefully slide the Memory stick in, but don't force it. My laptop's the same way, but it does read Memory stick pros. usually in the laptop documentation, you'll have the specs on the card reader, which will tell you what all it reads.
There are no standard 8 memory card formats so the ones supported by each reader will depend on the specific model. Your best bet is to google the specific reader model, but it'll likely support the more common formats, i.e. SD, Compact Flash, Smartmedia, Sony Memory stick, etc.
