81 sea ray keeps over heating! HELP FAST !?

i keep putigng my boat in i jsut changed the impellar and it keeps over ehating when tis going full throttle any ideas. can ou put an impeller in backwards??81 sea ray motor- v8 mercury 260 horse outdrive- alpha

Answer:

No you can't put in backwards. but you can make several mistakes when you do th installation. If the old pump was missing blades. you must find them. if you didn't install the little guide tube, or didn't even see it, you can crumple the rubber boot when you mate the upper and lower units. The pump can suck air if gaskets and boots are not sealed properly. you might even lose the key that drives the pump. OR there is obstructions in the thermostat, or it's failed. same goes for Exhaust manifolds One quick check is to take the thermostat out completely. another thing is to pressure flushthe exhaust. If, fresh water cooled the heat exchanger could be plugged. Good luck!
I do not know if a water pump impeller can be installed backwards, but you saw it, what do you think? If it is in ok, there might be an obstruction preventing enough cooling water from circulating.
