Question:

A bracket and wire on my braces came off?

I got braces yesterday and they are still very sore, so I can barely eat. And I was attempting to eat celery today out of massive hunger and I chewed from the back, because it seemed most comfortable. This lead to the back wire being loose and one of the brackets either coming off and me swallowing it on accident, because I do not recall feeling it recently. I called the orthodontist's office and there was no answer, because they are closed. What should I do?Also, can anyone subscribe anything for just pure soreness in my teeth/gums from the braces?

Answer:

see if you can clip the wire yourself for now. for pain advil, wax, rinse with warm salt water (this will toughen the inside of your mouth while it is getting used to the roughness of braces) much luck
There is some wax you can get in the toothpaste dept at walmart. You can put it over the wire etc that is making your jaw sore and it will help until you get in to the ortho. My son has the very same problem when he 1st got braces. Doc told him it was his fault but he had only eaten soup. I think the glue doesn't stick sometimes
You can get some dental wax from walmart, target, etc to put on the brackets. The brackets cut up the inside tissues of your gums at first and unfortunately it is painful but putting the wax on helps. Also you can try oralgel. As far as the bracket coming off I wouldn't be too worried, its not an emergency. Call your orthodontist and leave a message. Make sure you call asap early on monday so they can get you in to recement it on.
