Question:

A/C not working when set to auto or manual?

My A/C does not work when set to auto or manual. When I press the contactor switch in the A/C, everything turns on. I also cleaned the condensate pump/pan. What could could be stopping the contactor switch from turning on when I set the thermostat. Thanks

Answer:

Here this will help. When you set the thermostat to call for cooling it send the signal out to the contactor to energize, so it pulls it in and turn on the out side unit. NOW, you pushed it in manually and if the compressor and out door fan are coming on. Your issue could be the contactor itself has failed, as it has a 24 Volt coil on it. If the coil has failed then it will not work. Also, if your thermostat has batteries are the fresh?? Dead or weak batteries will cause the problem. The issue sound to me that either its the thermostat that is the problem (if its mechanical forget the battery issue) if its digital and you know the batteries are good. The next place to look is tow things. you need to check the transformer for 24V with a volt meter. One side will be either 120V or 208V. Its called a step down transformer so incomming voltage is either 120V or 208V. The step down in either case is always 24V. It may read a tad higher which is ok. Below 24V or 0 and thats the issue. Also on the circuit board there is a small auotmotive style fuse. It should be a 3 amp. Check and make sure its not blow. If its blown that the whole problem. You can use a 5 amp in place. If that blows, the 5 amp, you have a short in your low voltage circuit. More than likely out side a weed wacker hit the stat wire. All of these items fuse and transformer are located behind the panel on the air handler. That should point you in a decent direction. So if all check out inside the house, go out side with volt meter while system is calling for cooling. You should have 24V on the contactor if not the issue is with the stat wire, if you have 24V at the contactor and it wont pull in bad contactor coil. You need a new contactor.
When my son was one he would love to see pictures of people he new. Try making a album of pictures of them and you. I have one for church when he is supposed to be quiet.
well call an A/C repair dont be a miser!
how about the start of a college fund or taking him to a play gym, or you could buy one of those big cat trucks full of mega legos, I know my sons eyes lit right up when he saw that in the living room when he woke up
