a manager has to make a choice in whether to have specialized machinery needing fewer workers or general machinery requiring more workers to operate it effectively.
A manager should choose the lowest cost long term production/operating method as long as all other selection requirements are met.
you know the self checkout lanes at the grocery store? i won't go through them. hell no. i will wait all day to go through the line with a human being ringing my stuff up. machines should make our jobs easier. not replace us.
