Question:

A silo is a cylinder with half a sphere on top.?

The silo can hold 1152(pie) cubic feet of grain. The diameter of the silo is 12ft.1. Given that the volume of a cylinder is V=pie(r^2)h and the volume of a sphere is V=4/3(PIE)r^3, write a formula for the volume of the silo2. What is the height of the silo.Could you please help because I do not understand. I would go to tutoring but my bus gets late to school. Also if you could explain the best you can please and thank you.

Answer:

The radius of cylinder and hemisphere is 6 ft. Total combined volume is V = 1152π ft? If the volume of a sphere is 4πr?
About half the silos I am aware of have cone shaped tops. But yes you should assume that the top of the silo is capped with a half-sphere of the same diameter as the cylinder. volume = cylinder volume + ?volume of sphere with that radius (or diameter, what ever).
