Question:

About Newborns and Vacuum Cleaners?

My daughter is about 10 days old. Between the friends/family stopping by to see her and the dog I am anxious to resume vacuuming the house. Does anyone have a strategy or time they would suggest to do that?

Answer:

My baby loves the sound of a vacuum! It would soothe him.
ok so this may sound crazy but do it while shes sleeping. This way she will get use to noises when shes sleeping. I didn't with my first and my sister suggested it with my 2nd so wouldn't have the same problem of waking the baby with every little sound u make. Also the noise shouldn't bother her. Babies like white noise
Do it when there is some one there to hold the baby in case it scares him. Once you know weather or not the baby likes it then you can go from there. My daughter hated the vacuum till she was 3 but my son was never bothered by it, it actually put him to sleep on several occasions.
I don't quite understand your question; but a fun fact that is in most cases, the sound of vacuum cleaners or fans often soothe and calm an infant. It mimics the sound of white noise that they hear while in the womb and offers comfort. If you're looking for an appropriate time to vaccuum, do so when your baby is awake, and had everything tended for (feeding, diaper, etc) for the moment.
My daughter was a little startled by the noise at first, but the first three times or so I put her in a baby carrier on my chest while she was asleep so she got my heartbeat and a rocking motion to comfort her until she got used to the sound. After that it didn't bother her at all. Now that she is 13 months she likes to hold the vacuum and 'help' me.
