Question:

Abrasive that wont scratch aluminum?

I need something like sandpaper or a grinding disc that will remove things like plastic from aluminum but won't scratch the aluminum. So, sandpaper (or similar) but made out of plastic or maybe soft lead or tin grit so it will scratch plastic but not aluminum.

Answer:

Aluminum is too soft to use any abrasive like that on. Even a fingernail can scratch some alloys. Try a heat gun to soften the plastic coating and scrape it off with something made of heat resistant teflon, maybe a kitchen tool of some kind.
A hammer and liquid nitrogen
Sounds like a situation where some sort of solvent may be a better choice than an abrasive. Try a product called Goof Off and see if that will do the job.
Wet and dry use it wet
