Answer:

no. he will be fine. Lime only hurts them if it is used for drying up stalls. it is caustic, and can burn through the soft part of the hoof if they stand in it day after day. It can also cause respiratory problems without proper ventilation. Myself and just about everyone I know with horses use lime in our pastures (we have lots of red clay out here) to change the ph of the soil.
NO he will be fine. lime is not a fertiliser it is spread on the grass to take the acidity from the soil, so that when you do fertiliser your ground you will get better growth and sweeter grass for your horses make sure you use something like a 20-10-10- fert. SO gallop I would spread 1-1/2 tons of lime to a acre once every 5 years to get the soil p-h to 6-1/2 to 7 great an then i would spread 2 cwt of 20-10-10- in early spring an 1 cwt in early autumn every year. so what would you do with your horse ground when it comes to lime an fert?
If you are referring to plain ag lime, then it is not toxic and your horse will be fine. If any fertilizing agent was used in combination with the lime, it could be a problem and you need to know what it was. Nitrogen fertilizers are toxic to horses and are often applied along with lime. Lime is not a fertilizer, but is used to adjust the soil pH. The rule of thumb is that horses should not be returned to a nitrogen fertilized pasture until at least 1/2 inch of rainfall has soaked it into the ground.
