Question:

Adding a loud, deep exhaust system to my grand cherokee. What parts will I need, where can I get them cheapest?

Is this a do it yourself job? I‘m not totally new to cars but I‘ve never worked with exhaust.

Answer:

I had friends that took the class. They said it was super easy and they loved to show off what they made in class. Actually the classes were full and hard to get since every senior wanted to take it. (BTW in my school ceramics was JUST for seniors)
lol sounds like fun i hope my high school has that, but i don't think it's a good class for college, it's more recreational. other than finding out how the clay bakes or whatever
I think it sounds like fun )
The cheapest way to do it, and most effective, would be a new muffler. You really need to add details of what year Jeep, as well as what engine you have, because the latter will greatly affect what you need to do. For example, I have a 1996 with the 5.2L V8, and have a Flowmaster 70 series muffler. It's not overwhelmingly loud, but it is extremely deep, sounds great on idle, and doesn't drone on the highway. Realistically, Flowmaster would probably be the best and cheapest solution, any model number would work. Other than that, a Cherry Bomb glass pack would work also. As for the job being a DIY thing, yes, you can do it yourself. You'll need a reciprocating saw, new muffler, and correct sized exhaust clamps. However, I would spend the $70 or so and take it to an exhaust shop. They'll do it professionally, which means they'd weld it, meaning there would be a lesser chance of having an exhaust leak. Good luck, and I hope it sounds great! FYI, check YouTube, there are always people throwing up sound clips of various mufflers on Grand Cherokees.
Adding an exhaust system can be a do it yourself job. If you want to ensure its done well you can always take it to a mechanic. If you do it yourself you need to get a new muffler first and foremost. . Along with the appropriate sized exhaust clamps. I had installed a deep exhaust system on my Jeep 2 years ago and had it professionally done.
