adult braces question : clear ceramic vs. silver?

I am getting my braces next Friday. I am opting for ceramic/clear, but my orthodontist wants silver on the bottom. I am begging for clear on the bottom , too. What is the reason for him wanting silver on the bottom? I am 36 and am already going to feel a bit strange. I want to be as normal as possible with them.

Answer:

Ceramic is more expensive for him. He may be charging you the same price for either. Also, ceramic tends to break more often then the metal. The metal can withstand big changes in pressure, while the ceramic can only take so much, doesn't bend, and then breaks to releive the pressure. Are you able to drop everything and make a quick trip into the ortho to get fixed? Congrats. I got mine off in July after 18 months. It stinks as an adult but it was worth every penny.
Probably need to have the tire balance checked and the tires rotated.
Tires. I bet. Or get an alignment. I had the same thing happen but it was a tire. Check em
My sister had ceramic and they always turned yellow, go with the silver, its a cleaner look. Just keep the rubberbands all silver.
I think that is just standard practice. Its possible that the metal is stronger and since more food will be settling on the bottom teeth that the braces are easier to clean and less likely to stain if they are metal as opposed to ceramic. Congrats on getting braces, I really wish I could afford them!
