Being an Air Force brat, I knew that I would join the service like my father did. The only question was which one. During High school, I talked with the recruiters. All except the AF. I wanted something different. After spending many hours and many days at each recruiters office, reading their propaganda and watching their videos, I decided that I needed to finish school first. I felt overwhelmed by all the info and the pressure to join. When I told each recruiter of my wishes, the Army and Navy continued to hound me relentlessly. They called non-stop and came by my house every day. I told them to leave me alone but they didnt listen. It got so bad that when my mom answered the door or phone she had to tell them off so they would stop bothering me. When I told the Marine recruiter that I wanted to focus on school, he said he respected my decision and gave me his business card. He told me that when I finally decided what I wanted to do with my life, if it involved the USMC, to give him a call. I never heard another word from him. Over a year later, I decided. Since I had a bad taste in my mouth from the Army and Navy, I picked up the Marine recruiters business card and called him up. Out of all the recruiters I talked with, the USMC was the most professional and respectful. The rest is history. Best decision I ever made. As for the hardest part of being a Marine, I can honestly say that the first few weeks of boot camp were the hardest. Once you got used to that, everything else was gravy. It was only a matter of making the mental adjustment from being a civilian to a Marine. Once you become a Marine, the word stress means nothing to you. I dont stress about anything. Stress is afraid of me and wont come around here.
