Question:

Airport Regulations?

My mother is leaving for a trip to Europe and I'd like to slip a mother's day card into her suitcase, will it be ok to have lotto scratch-offs as a small gift inside the card? I don't want her to experience any problems with Airport security.

Answer:

Use a large basting stitchIf it's really stretchy, use a zig-zag stitch.
Are you saying the needle does not catch the bobbin thread? All needle types should penetrate swimwear fabricCan you stitch regular fabric and it is just the swimwear fabric that you cannot seam?
Kay gave you some good tips: I've been quilting for many yearsI have three of Penny's Euro-pros from themThey're a good machine but, don't have a lot of functionsI do have a Brother Embroidery machine also but, don't use it that much and a sergerI also have a heavy duty machine for heavy fabricThe Penney's has been the work horse for our quilting workWe can't afford a real quilting machine but, still do the workThey're usually about 15 thousand dollarsThe cheapest I've seen, the best machines are about six thousand dollars, a lot of money if you don't have itIf you pay anywhere from 150 to 200 dollars for a machine and learn to use it, you'll do fine.
As far as I know, in my fairly vast travel experience, scratch-off lottery tickets should not be a problem as your mother clears securityEven though the scratch off portion of the lottery ticket is made of a metal foil/aluminum paste, it should not be enough to alarm anyoneBaggage scanning systems allow the screener to see a fairly clear picture of the contents of the bag and any baggage screener with common sense will be able to see that it is not anything threateningI've gone through security with things wrapped in aluminum foil without being questionedThough it technically falls under that whole has anyone but you handled your suitcase thing.I don't foresee any real issue with the contents of her Mother's Day cardNow if you were giving her bullets, a lead pipe, or any kind of hazardous materials.that might be a different story.
