Question:

Could it be my card reader at fault?

All my SD cards are coming write protected, I've put tape over the notch and over the slider so that it can't be pushed down, but even the newest empty cards are still protected, so I wondered if my reader could be faulty.

Answer:

Fairly certain that's a driver problem. And I'm also fairly certain you have an HP. :- You could spin over to your manufacturers website and see if there are updates available for the devices in your computer. If its less than a year old, you should still have a manufacturers warranty and maybe get a CD with the drivers on it. But my professional opinion is that you updated Windows 7, and now the drivers for your card-reader are strewn. So try to update from the Manufacturers website.
