Question:

American keyboard question?

A friend of mine has an american keyboard and they cant get the @ on their keyboard.any ideas and does the american layout in regional settings have to be deleted.

Answer:

To help you further answer your question we would need to know is this on your PC or a mobile device? Also, just to make sure, what are you trying to type in like Notepad or Word or Outlook or Gmail, etc.? Also what type of keyboards are you familiar with so we can research any differences. To access the @ symbol on the PC with an America Keyboard we have to hold the Shift key down and then type the 2 key which is the @ while the Shift key is held down. When you do this does it not type an @?
if you're using a keyboard on a phone, you can manage your settings to add the american keyboard.
It's the @ key or the 2 key in caps. My first guess would be they have the wrong regional settings, most likely the United Kingdom. It needs to be United States.
