Question:

Any recommendations for getting a high chair?

I'm about to get my baby's first high chair. Any features I should look for? What you folks found useful for your babies?

Answer:

I highly recommend a space saver high chair, the convenience and the versatility alone it makes it worth it. If you have more than one eating area it's nice to be able to switch it from chair to chair or to use it on the floor even. It's less expensive than full size chairs, stores easily and transports fairly easy as well. We often take ours to friend's houses or to grandma's, it fits on a seat in the car.. it's nice to be able to take it with you so not everyone has to accommodate you.. Like a parent who may watch your son once in awhile. It cleans up nicely and the fabric back comes off to throw in the wash.
Really consider this. Do you want your LO at their own high chair with a tray, or do you want them to sit at the table? Both has pro's and cons but consider which fits in with your life better. We are limited on space, so chose a wooden high chair that adjusts as our daughter grows, and slides right up to the table. It is great as it takes up no extra space, but there were defiantly times I wanted a tray, especially when she was younger, but this doesn't have one.
If I had it to do all over again, I would get the Inglesina high chair that hooks right on your table or bar. The baby is at the table with you and they love it. We have the Chicco one that hooks onto tables and our son loves it, but we've been looking into getting the Inglesina one to hook onto our bar and to take when we go out to eat so our son doesn't have to use the nasty high chairs they have in restaurants.
Here is a place where you can shop for the best baby high chair you never dream about. See here: bit.ly/1bwQiHj
We got the Fisher Price 'space saver' chair (the one that is just the highchair top and straps securely to any barstool or chair) and we LOVE it!! Our dining table is low, but we have a pub height table with barstools that we use at breakfast or for casual meals, so we can move it from table to table and always have her at the same height. I can even take it off the chair and set it on the living room floor with toys on the tray while we watch a movie. It converts to a booster seat down the road and will be really easy to store in a closet for future babies! It's also about $100 cheaper than similar models with legs. You want to look for one that's easy to clean and holds the baby at a good angle (some are too upright). Online reviews are always helpful for finding out this information before you make a purchase!
