Question:

Anybody know of a good smoke detector with an automatic dialer without paying a fortune?

I rent, so it has to be wireless. I just don't see the point in paying hundreds of dollars to install this unit and over $30/mo for monitoring when I could perhaps buy something at a store or online that does it by just paying a one-time, lesser fee. Yet, I find no such product anywherewhy?

Answer:

Read your owner's manual all the way through. Yes, you can clamp onto the high voltage lead, but be careful! Wear the proper safety protection: Face Shield, Gloves and (rubber) Vest. Whenever working with high voltage equipment, always make sure that your feet, socks and shoes are dry. Read the service manual on your equipment that you plan to measure. If any personnel wish to watch you do this, make sure that they stay least 10 feet away from the equipment when it is energized. 600 VAC refers to the meter lead maximum input rating. 400A DC is the maximum input rating of the clamp feature.
