The Alkali metals are of Group 1 from Lithium to Francium in the Periodic Table of Elements. They are so called as they form Hydroxides (Alkalis) with water. Hydrogen is in the same group, as it's in the Hydroxyl group as OH(1-), it behaves in a similar manner to the Alkali metals.
