Question:

Anyone who knows or has Solar Panels?

Ok so if i wanted to put a solar panel on my house and i live where it snows, will that be a problem? If the snow covers the solar panel will that be a problem? If so then do i have to climb on my roof and clear it off or what?

Answer:

Yes, snow will reduce the amount of energy the photovoltaics recieve and convert to electricity. Because the panels usually have a very flat glass surface, and because the slope for the panels is usually fairly high, snow will often slide off. Freezing rain, esp freezing rain changing to snow can make a covering that's difficult to get off. If you don't usually get freezing rain, and if you usually have nice sun after snow storms, your panels should be clear most of the time.
In my experience the snow usually slides off by itself. There have been times when it's snowed heavily and I've had to clean it off but it does not tend to be the norm.
It shouldnt be a problem being where it snows, as long as you dont mind clearing it off a lot to recieve maximum efficiency! Or else it should work anyways but not as well covered with snow.
My sincere advice is forget about using a solar panel in your place. It is not suitable for your type of place.I am using three solar panel in my house. One is 30 watts driving an axial flow fan giving very good air for me and for my family people during day time. Another one is only 5 watts. Giving air for my face alone when I work on my lap top.Another 3 watts Panel I am using to determine the life of Panel that drives a mini motor for all the day time from the past 4 years.
