Question:

Anything good for brightening carpets?

I think Tide works great for brightening clothes and was wondering is there anything out there that brings out the color in older carpets (my carpets are about 7 years old and they are starting to fade in color).

Answer:

I put oxyclean in the steam cleaner with the soap...also make sure you use the high traffic pre-spotter, it really makes a difference.
I'm having the same problem and I just searched the net and found a place that recommended using hydrogen peroxide and it............. so tomorrow I'll buy some and try that. but if you find anything better than the shampooer please let me know too!!! My carpets are an off white and now look more like nicotine stains along the main walking paths! YUCK!!!
If your carpet is just dull from the years of wear (dirt accumulation) you might want to have it professionally cleaned. The machines they use are a LOT more powerful at removing set in dirt than any rental or home use machine could be, but if your carpet is faded from sun exposure there's nothing really you can do. When the color is gone, it's gone and you might want to look into replacing the carpet.
Get a carpet washer(I don't know what its called, but it shampoos your carpet and it looks like a vacuum, but you use water and soap in it), it may just be really dirty. If thats not the problem, then ask a carpet store, they would definitely know.
