Question:

Applying fiberglass resin.?

I am doing a little speaker project and i am gonna use fiberglass.though what do i use to keep the shape? like do i use the fiberglass cloth and stretch it in between the two points? and then apply resin? by the way i am kinda of a newbie at this. so do i buy fiberglass cloth and stretch it to the two points to create the shape, then apply the resin? thanks

Answer:

You stretch the fleece(cloth) over the wood. After that you need to paint fiberglass resin on it. When it dries you start adding fiberglass mats then you paint more resin on it and add more fiberglass and continue the process untill you feel it is strong enough for what you are using it for. Youtube up how to fiberglass lots of information
The fiberglass cloth will likely stretch once resin is applied. If you want to keep the shape then you will want to use a polyester fleece. You can get cloth to work but only if you don't stetch it out or if you have something to make it keeps it's shape. I would suggest polyester fleece, however, if you want a material that will keep it's shape once resin is applied. If the material needs to be strong add a couple of layers of fiberglass mat to strengthen the fleece. Good Luck!!!
Do I follow your description? You have built a form of wood. You will cover this form with cement (the stuff mixed with gravel to make concrete) You wish to lay up fiberglass fabric and resin on the cement and when you are done lift the rigid form off the cement. I think you should ask people who work intensely with concrete and cement and forms. I think you should use something heavier than floor wax - perhaps the waxes used on concrete forms. I think you will have to be very careful of the smoothness and shape of the cement to keep the fiberglass from locking to it just from texture and shape no matter how much wax you put on.
