Question:

Aqaurium filter, power cable submerged?

Hi. I have a Marina Power Filter (Slimline S15) and the power cable that is connected to it appears to need to be submerged in the water. That doesn't seem safe at all but the instructions (although poorly written) seem to point to that being the case,Advice please.

Answer:

yes, it's completely submersible and safe for the filter and part of the cord to be in the aquarium.... note: as another poster has pointed out, that's a crappy filter. If you ever get a real aquarium, buy better equipment.
It's safe as long as the cable and filter are not damaged. They whole unit is sealed in plastic so the water and electricity can't meet up. Ian
First, I would get a filter that you trust, I have Stingray 15 by Elite, and the cables of that are submerged as well. Although the cables are wrapped in a waterproof and insulated tube so no water cannot get in and the electricity cannot get through to the water and kill the fish. So the cables are not a problem if you have a trustworthy filter.
Yes you can submerge it and it's safe. On a side note, those filters are very weak, if you have it on a tank of the size it's intended for, it's probably inadequate.
