Question:

Are 2 vacuum cleaners twice as loud as 1 vacuum cleaner?

Or would 2 vacuum cleaners produce the same volume of noise as just 1 vacuum cleaner? but just more consistently? ie. the same volume of noise, but just more of it. Assume the vacuum cleaners are of equal distance and they are the same model. Some analogy could be made when you touch one hotplate with one hand and another hotplate with the other hand. Touching the second hotplate doesn't mean that you are receiving heat that is twice as hot, you would just be receiving twice the amount of heat.Or is noise more like light, where two light bulbs do equal more light.

Answer:

no it wont be twice as loud. noise is rated by decibles and every time the noise is doubled, the decible reading goes up 1 decible
