Question:

Are staples safe in the microwave?

The other day my 9-year-old son asked for permission to use the microwaveI relented but only if I supervisedIt seems my hippie ex-wife taught him this new method of microwaving popcorn where you staple (!) a paper lunch bag filled with popcorn kernelsWhen I saw him add the staples, I had to abort the mission LOLHe was upset, but I was just glad to prevent an explosion in my villa apartmentWe plugged in my old popcorn popper, but it didn't workThen he got really upsetDid I over react? Are staples safe in the microwave?

Answer:

I don't think your microwave would explode, but there's a good chance it'll catch fireEven little bits of aluminum foil that won't peel off because they're stuck to frozen meet will spark and flame, then you add paper and it's just a bad ideaIf he wants to experiment with popcorn, see if you can find microwaveable ziplock bags.
