Question:

are tanning beds harm full for baby when pregnant?

tanning bed precautions

Answer:

there is no radiation risk - the UV from the beds will not go any deeper than maybe 1 cm into your skin so there's really no danger there. The biggest problem is heat. The lamps in the tanning beds generate heat, which can possibly raise your temperature and cause some distress for the baby. On the other side, the Vitamin D hit you get from tanning will do you both some good and it's naturally occurring which means you can't OD as you might with supplements. All that said, it's always best to consult with your doctor and, if you DO hit the beds, keep the times short enough that you don't break a sweat. Plus: UV is UV, regardless of the source. If you go outside and get some sun, getting it from a controlled environment like a tanning bed is essentially the same thing

i don't think its good for you when pregnant. it either says not to do so when pregnant or to consult a physician at one of the places i used to tan at. im not a doctor, but i dont see why it could harm your child. personally it couldn't be worse then smoking or drinking right? it might have to do with your skin while pregnant though. i read about some symptoms of pregnancy and you tend to get itchy skin and tanning could potentially make it worse. you could always ask your ob-gyn to be safe though, i would. =] snaps cassie has a valid point there. didn't think of that!
I'm a trained esthetician, and spa owner. As for your question; Yes, tanning beds are harmful for babies, and is actually 40% worse for your skin while pregnant. The radiation alone can be harmful to the baby. But if that's not enough to deter you from going, this might; When pregnant some women develop a skin disorder called Melasma. This is a pigment change in the skin caused by hormones. This looks like splotchy dark spots on the skin, like a birthmark, and may not always clear up after the babies born. By going into a tanning bed, you are increasing the chances for this type of disorder. I hope my answers helpful for you.
