Question:

auto repair water pump?

1998 jeep cherokee water pump

Answer:

Two more things to add... 1. Buy a chilton manual. it will help and give step-by-step instructions and pictures. 2. (assuming a 4.0l 6cyl) The water pump doesn't just come off. The bolts holding the water pump also hold the AC, Alternator, and Power Steering pump. Its not a big deal, but it takes a while and you don't take these out, just lay them to the side. Personally, it was worth having the local shop do the work.
Chuck has an excellent step by step write-up on doing the job yourself. Is that your question, how do I change my w/p? If not then please edit to help us help you. (I sound like Jerry McGuire) On Chucks write up I just never wait for the RTV to set up at all just put it on and snug down the bolts.
not too hard of a job 1.drain radiator/block of all anti-freeze 2.remove fan shroud 3.remove serpentine belt 4.remove fan unless its electric 5.pull the hoses. 6.remove bolts holding the w/p in place 7.clean all gasket area of old gaskets 8.dry fit new w/p to make shure new pump is right part 9.put rtv gasket on block where w/p will mount 10.put rtv on new w/p 11.put new gasket on w/p 12.mount water pump and snug up the bolts do not tighten 13.after allowing rtv to set for 24hrs tourqe bolts to spec. 14.reverse steps 5 to 1 15.check for leaks.
not quite a question here, what are you?
