It‘s noticeable in the sense that it‘s comparable to barely tapping the brake when slowing down. I didn‘t know if this was normal or not. The transmission engages fine when moving from park to drive to reverse etc. Just that one downshift when slowing down under 20 mph.
It's both normal and not normal. The transmission is from a 1993 Civic, so obviously by now a lot of the parts inside have worn down over time so you are gonna have harder shifts. It's also an older styled transmission so again, it shifts hard to begin with when you compare to todays transmissions but back then those shifts were pretty good. It's also normal to feel a downshift a lot more than an upshift and going from 2nd to such a low gear like 1st will be kind of jerky. Best thing to do is drain and refill the transmission, use Honda ATF only. DO NOT flush the transmission, it's old and I'm sure it has high mileage, it shouldn't be flushed. It's possible it could be a bigger issue but there's really no way of knowing without looking at it.
