Question:

baking soda or lime?

on my horse's pee spot is it better to use lime dust or baking soda? i have rubber mats but it still gets smelly

Answer:

Try a farm supply store
Slaked lime is just burnt lime that has been cured. In other words it is just ground limestone that has had water added to it and is dried. Any garden supply store will have bags of lime. It is what you apply to lawns to raise the pH of the soil
Most outlets sell lime in ten pound bags, minimum. You need to find out if you can use hydrated lime, in place of raw slaked lime. The best suppliers of the raw stuff is the following in the US. If you are in Europe, I'm afraid I have no information for you. == CALCIUM OXIDE: Fresco lime plaster is made from calcium oxide (CaO). J.T. Baker Chemical Co. Phillipsburg, New Jersey 08865 201-859-2151 Bellefonte Lime Co. P.O. Box 448 Bellefonte, PA 16823 (814) 355-4761 Rarely, bags of hot lime or quick lime may be obtained in a mason's supply store, though hard to find. All calcium oxide has a very short storage life and should be slaked as soon as possible after purchase. Hydrated lime is commonly found in building supply outlets.
