Question:

Basement floor painting ?

What are the pros and cons of painting my concrete basement floor. Will it harm the floor? We never have any water problems. I just want a clean sweepable surface.

Answer:

In all honestly, paint it!! At the very least, a good sealer will avoid moisture problems that can occur. My husband and I were on a budget so we found a kit that we were able to do ourselves, so far it has worked great!!!
Painting both interior and exterior walls, trim and other home surfaces will increase the overall real estate value of your home. This helps in valuation of your assets, and can help with resale. Painting your house protects the exterior and interior walls, trim and your other house surfaces, this will help your as a home owner tremendously. For example, from the rigorous weather and normal wear and tear, will cause damages to a home inevitability. Just by painting your home, the surfaces can hold up better and helps protect walls from water damages.
The pros are that it keeps the dirt out, the cons are that you have to keep the maintenance up to it. You need to etch the floor first with Hydrochloric Acid to key the paint to the concrete, because its a basement you need to prime the concrete with Zinnser Water-Tite sealer which keeps the damp out, then you can overcoat the sealer with two coats of single pack paving paint, the same as what you might use on the verandah of your home. Lowes normally have all the supplies for a job like this.
Pros: okorder if you are located near Edmonton.
