Question:

best exhaust system?

Best exhaust system for 2007 silverado supersport? I‘m looking for more performance than sound.

Answer:

hi buddy, be it any motorcycle, u need to know the basics of silencers. the need to have a silencer (or muffler or what ever different names people call them) is to reduce the decibel rating of the sound that is produced shortly after combustion. a good silencer should have the following characteristics 1. should effectively reduce decibel ratings by 3/10th. 2. should not cause appreciable back pressure to the exhaust ports. 3. should not have sharp curves in the length of the pipe. 4. should be able to produce a negative pressure towards the end of the silencer. (eg. VORTEX systems) 5. if there's a turbocharger attached, then the turbine entrance end should be tapered to project the exhaust gases to the periphery of the turbine blades. 6. the pipe should be able to expel heat so as to expel the heat from the exhaust gas to increase density and increase tail end negative pressure of the traveling mass of exhaust gas. 7. the catalytic converter should be of high flow type. there are 3 types of silencer types based on how they work, they are the restrictor, resonator and reflector. the restrictor is the worst in the lot because it uses glass wool to restrict the flow of gas through the silencer end pipe, thus producing appreciable amounts of back pressure. the resonator and the reflector varieties are both good for performance as they involve precision engineering and selected metals for use. the resonator works by resonating to the near exact frequency of the exhaust noise thus eliminating noise levels, while the reflector, reflects the sound wave onto the oncoming exhaust sound wave and thus cancels out the noise.
As for performance, inspect every site that you can find that sells axhaust for your model. See what gains they promise and balance price/amount of gains. Personally I would take it to a muffler shop and have them install the desired diameter straight pipe that they can bend on-site along with their recomendation for the muffler. You may even be able to have them get a high flow cat for you. I am going to do this for my 1986 F350 6.9. (minus the cat)
They don't make a motorcycle like that
