Question:

Best garlic press?

Hi,Last year I got a garlic press from William Sonoma. I hate it! It is so hard to clean and just smushes the garlic. I want to know, what is a really good garlic press that will give me nice pieces of garlic and will clean very easily?Do you have a website? Do you have a link?Alot of the ones they have out now don't clean up well, ie you can never get the garlic out of the press. They also have really small holes so they just smush the garlic. So if you know of one, please let me know.Thank you for your help :)

Answer:

the best garlic press in my opinion is a chef's knife. Lay it flat and give it a good whap with the heel of your hand, and the garlic is bruised so all the flavor is exposed. A quick rough chop and you're done. Only thing that will work better, again in my opinion, is a microplane grater or as I like to call it, a finger shortener.
dont use one, they are all pieces of crap and all they will do is mush it up and make it hard to work with, the best way to do it is use a knife, smash it (lie the blade flat ontop of the garlic) and press down with some force if needed, than do a quick chop/mince(watch those fingers). this is the best way to use fresh garlic cloves and the easiest.
I use the side of a knife, or to make minced garlic as I hate to chop garlic into little bitty pieces cuz its so sticky, I use a quick turn of the food processor.
I have a Zyliss that I like. It came w/ a little cleaner thingy to clean the holes out . But normally, I don't bother. I just mash the clvoe on a cutting board w/ a wide knife, then chop finely. Works for whatever a garlic press would be needed for.
I like no garlic press the best. I have a santoku knife and I just peel my garlic then turn the knife on it's side and press the garlic flat. Then I cut garlic as I like it.
