Question:

best glue for plastics?

plastic housing on car broken epoxy worked for a while

Answer:

it is probably polystyrene - same as models construction kits - don't get poly cement, it is v messy - go to a decent model shop and ask for Humbrol or Airfix poly solvent (100% acetone) - comes in a small bottle with applicator brush - apply to both sides, wait till it becomes tacky and press together. I can't find my bottle, or I'd give you the exact name Or... if there is a nail salon nearby, ask for a bottle of nail tip remover which is also high strength acetone - a useful solvent to keep in your toolbox (carefully) - HTH
Elmer's Instant Krazy Glue.

There isn't a single glue for all plastics. Each type of plastic reacts differently, so first identify the plastic, and then search for a suitable glue. For example, for ABS, a mix of ABS shavings and Acetone can be used to 'plastic weld'. Acetone (nail varnish) works for PS too. I cheated, the part I wanted to fix was marked as ABS and I googled glue for ABS and then went to the local Screwfix depot and talked to the staff there. As it happened, they had a glue they sold for pipework that would do the trick.
