Question:

Best smoke detector for my needs?

Ideally would like to find a smoke detector that has these capabilities:120V w 9v backup - not just 9vDual ionization and photoelectric sensorsAbility to interconnect to other unitsNOT First AlertI don't see units like this at Lowe's or Home Depot - online or in the store. To me it seems ideal, that in a basement I may want just one type, bedrooms and other areas, both types.Either why aren't these produced, or where are some shopping links to them?

Answer:

James, there's no need to put carbon monoxide detectors all over the house. Put one near the furnace itself, and a second on in the first room the largest duct leads to. If either goes off, your furnace needs servicingand you and your family may need medical care. Quickly evacuate the house. Open windows on the way out if you feel perfectly normal, and call 911 from outside or a neighbor's house.
You can spray some WD-40 in the door lock, that will help it.
There's a metal rod that goes to the locking part of the door it must have come off. Or if the key operates a switch that unlock the door electrically it's the lock solenoid ( it's about 1-1/2 inches round and about 4 to 6 inches long ) it will have two wire going to it check for 12 volts when the locking switch is operated.
