Question:

Blanketing for winter?

I usually didnt blanket my horses, but one of them is older and we don't want him losing any weight trying to keep warm over winterThe other one i ride everyday cold or hot and often times in the winter with his thick winter coat i'd be stuck with a cooler on him for hoursI have two questions.Horse 1 - The older oneHe can grow a nice winter coat, however we are going to blanket himWe won't be riding him this summer, or this winterShould we put a lightweight on for fall and then in winter put a heavier one underneath the lightweight?? Can i put a regular stable blanket under the waterproof lightweight??horse 2 - I do not want any coat on him at allShould i go the nine yards with a neck cover on the blanket aswell? What weight blanket should go on him in fall and winter???i know its not natural to blanket, but i decided to last year after it got badSo any info and links would be greatAnyone know of any good deals on blankets/coolers etc?

Answer:

Sounds like thats as good as it gets, but try shopping for some stuff online, like clothes makeup and stuff like thatIts usually cheaper there than at the store, but I wouldnt buy anything from the penny auction websites, the ones that sell iPods for like $30Those are usually scamsBut thats the only other thing i can think ofAnd if your worried about someone stealing your credit card number, get one of those prepaid visa cards at walmart and just put money on it when you need itYou could always get a volkswagon dieselI hear those get better gas milage than a prius.
it sounds like you're doing everything you can to cut your budget next steps: plant a veggie garden grow your own veggies (this may have to wait until spring) make your own bread make your own yogurt (got a crock pot? it's really easy way cheaper than the store bought stuff) make your own broth/soups shop on double or triple coupon days if your grocery store offers deals like thatyou didn't mention actually saving money as in a savings accountmake sure you're saving ideally 10% of your take home pay in an emergency fundIf you just can't do that then start w/ a smaller amount until you get to a point where you can save more.
I would start with being completely honest with myselfI would go over everything I buy and anytime I justify something with an excuse I would question itLike the statement I only buy a few brand name stuff sounds fishy to me, make sure you need the brand name stuffAlso get rid of comcast in favor of something cheaper, it doesnt matter if its slower .
Cut out netflix and get movies from the library insteadActually brand name is often cheaper for a lot of toiletries if you need themColgate toothpaste is free all the time at Walgreens and CVSDental floss is free at Walmart and Walgreens and probably CVS all the time Body wash brands Nivea (mens and womens!), Pert (mens womens!) Tone womens, Dial womens, old spice mens, gillette mens, body washes have been free this year at WalgreensOld spice, sure, suave, dry idea, gillette deodorants have been free this year at WalgreensI run a blog that tells you where to use your coupons to get free productsMenards also has lots of stuff free with their rebate program You didn't say where you liveIf by some slim chance you live in Milwaukee/Waukesha, Wisconsin area you can do double coupons at Pick n Save (Copps, Rainbow) and get free grocery items that way sometimesI don't get much food free but I get deals like Ragu pasta sauce and Skippy peanut butter, and also General Mills and Kelloggs brand boxed cereals for 50 cents using double coupons and salesI have gotten free pasta and frozen veggies in the past using coupons tooNot all food is free, some is just way below retail like the Ragu and cereal If nothing else you can probably still benefit reading my Walgreens, Walmart and Menards postsYou might find something free you need there!
Horse 1 - don't blanket him in the fallNot sure what part of the country you're from, but wait until the temperatures get below freezing before putting a blanket on him (around Christmas time in the southern PA area)If you start to blanket in the fall, he won't grow his winter coat inYou have to let him go thorough a few chilly nights to stimulate the hair to growAfter you start blanketing, if the weather gets really nasty you can add stable blankets under the water proof oneJust make sure he isn't getting hotHorse 2 - Yes, you should get a neck cover if you don't want him growing a winter coatIn the fall, start him with a light stable blanket overnight when the weather gets coolAs it gets colder, start leaving the blanket on all dayShift to a medium weight blanket when the weather starts to get nippy, and a heavy weight (or double blanket with the medium and a stable blanket) when the temperature drops below freezingHe is still going to get a bit fuzzy, so you can body clip him when he gets bad (January or FebruaryAny later, and you'll damage his summer coat)If you clip him, make sure you add an extra blanket afterwards.
