Question:

BMW X5 - car alarm going, car wont start - help?

I unlocked my car and the alarm/siren immediately went off. I put my keys in the ignition and the car wouldn‘t even turn on. Now I can‘t lock the car either, and the alarm goes off at random every couple of minutes. If you have any idea what‘s going on or how I can fix this, please answer, any and all help appreciated (we‘ve tried calling our dealer countless times now, as well as just about everyone we can think of who might be able to help, and i‘ve searched all over the internet. I‘m desperate.)thanks!

Answer:

yes or it will stay locked up and you will smoke the clutchs in the differental. I have been there done it blew the rear end up.
If it's between a 2007 and 2010 model, pressing and holding the trunk button on the key fob activates the alarm. To disable the alarm, push any other button on the key fob. So even if you tried unlocking it with your key (not the fob), you should still be able to disable the alarm by push any other button on the fob. If none of this works then you should TAKE it to a certified BMW dealer.
What year is the X5? You may not think it is relevant but it helps sometimes. And just how did you unlock the car? Just by opening the door, mechanically with the key, or with the remote/fob.? And have you tried locking then unlocking the vehicle with the remote in the hope that the alarm would go off and the engine start? Could you have inadvertently pushed the panic button somehow?
I'd start by rolling up all the windows, shutting the sun-roof, hood, and trunk-lid. Close all doors and using the actual key, lock the LF door using the lock cylinder. All doors should lock, the alarm should arm, and the security warning lamp should flash. Wait a moment, and unlock all car doors (turn twice). Do not use the remote in these steps, instead, use the actual key. Next, hop in, close the door. Insert the key, wait a moment, and attempt starting the engine. If the engine does not start, or the alarm sounds when you open the door, the general module may be faulty. If you can hear a clicking sound from the starter the starter is either faulty or the battery is discharged. If the battery is discharged, charge it using a battery charger. Jump-start at your own risk (I've seen a $1500 DSP module get fried from a jump start/booster pack). If no sound or electrical surge is detected, the immobilizer may be faulty. If these steps don't get it started, you more than likely will end up in the repair shop.
