Question:

Born before 1980? How many of you can remember this?

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's, and 70's!! First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they were pregnant. They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes. Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking. As infants children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags. Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat. We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle. We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.

Answer:

no you are not strict at these are traditional rules that every household should have. today's society gives kids too much freedom and makes them too technology dependent. i have kids that are 5 and 1 when they get older i will have rules similar to these. the only thing i don't agree with is the no junk food unless it s a special occasion but other than that GREAT PARENTING
Yes, that is somewhat strict. They should not be penalized if they get a C (unless they are slacking off), because a C is passing, but if they are trying their best and end up getting a C, then nothing should happen to them. As for the 16 year old, those rules are fine for the most part, and it is not a bad rule to have the lights on and the door open when his girlfriend is over, but you should still give them some privacy. As for the 14 year old, 14 is a good age to date, but as long as you meet the person first, and know where they are going. The restriction of junk food and soda is unnecessary, it should be something like: no junk food or soda until after breakfast/dinner. They should be able to play video games on a school night for 1-2 hours if homework, studying, and chores are done. It is good to take them to church sometimes, but they shouldn't have to go every single Sunday (or Wednesday, for that matter)
I once had the same thing happen and found it to be small bugs that were living in the toasty warm detector. They were apparently were crawling in the photo sensor or making small webs, partially blocking the photo cell and tricking the detector and setting it off. I was thumping on the detector one time when it went off. A small bug fell out - that's how I figured it out. Once I got the bugs out and cleaned out the webs, it stopped.
Forcing a child to go to church is the worst imaginable form of child abuse I can think of.
Yes but not in a bad way. I have 4 children myself and I do not allow them sodas and try so hard about junk food but I think the crap grows in my backyard. I always find wrappers and chips I do not buy. I used to let my oldest spend the night with friends that were in the same neighborhood but then my sisters house caught on fire while she was watching her husbands nephew and it was at night so she had to get herself. Her 3 children 8,2,and 2 months out of the house plus find the nephew that was hiding he was 6 and apparently started the fire with a grill lighter that no one knows where it came from. They all got out but the house was destroyed beyond repair. I no longer allow my children to spend the night places because I'm scared something will happen. They don't have bedtimes. None of them. I started giving bedtimes when they first started school but in honesty bedtimes are a lot better when your children decide they are tired enough to go to sleep. My kids are very reasonable about sleep time though. My youngest is 4 and stays awake sometimes till 11 but she doesn't have school. My other kids usually fall asleep around 9 on their own. Homework is done as soon as kids get home and I let them watch tv or play video games till about 7. Then its dinner. Bath time. Reading to.e and quiet play till the kids wanna sleep.
