Question:

Bought a used car with a car alarm -- dont have remote. Went off when changing battery, cant disengage.

Pulled the plug on the horn, but the alarm protection is interfering with my being able to start the car. A mechanic has it now, but any help would be appreciated.

Answer:

if it is an aftermarket alarm. you'll need have to either find out who made it and buy replacment remotes to use the alarm or have it completly removed if the alarm is a standard feature of the car from factory you will need to take it to a dealership
I bought one just like this. Usually there is a 'valet' switch that will turn the system off when you insert the key and try to start the car. I had to actually go under the dash and disconnect all of the plugs from the module. The module is about the size of a pregnant iPod.
most aftermarket alarms have a wire spliced into the starter solenoid wire at the base of the steering column.you should have be able to cut the splied wire feeds out and hook the starter wire back up.it might also have a fuel interupt wire splice also.
