Question:

brackets/ligatures/braces. help please? :]?

I just got my braces put on today. On the way home i felp a sight pop in my mouth. i looked in the mirror to find one of the brackets had popped off. soon after 2 others beside it did. Is it normal for this to happen? Also, when i went for my work-up or whatever they call it. the lady told me i could get colored ligatures. but today i had a diff lady put the braces on and she used gray. Do they use gray the first time everytime? I didnt want toask and feel stupid. Oh, and if they dont use gray, would it be rude to ask about them changing the colors when i go in to get the 3 brackets fixed?

Answer:

no it won`t be rude, they were supposed to ask what color u want anyways . and your brackets shouldn`t pop out . but if the two others pooped out and the middle one did, then i guess that`s supposed to happen .
No, the brackets popping off is not normal. I'd suggest getting that fixed right away - so you can get a great smile even quicker :) And yes, you have every right to ask for colored ligatures! When I got mine on, the lady asked me what colors i wanted. But when I went for my first tune-up, they had grey ones all ready for me, so I POLITELY asked for colored. Speak up for yourself, cause your the one wearing them so you should love them!
Call the office right away and tell them what happened. Be sure to tell them that the brackets popped off soon after you left and before you ate anything. It sounds like you had bond failure on those brackets. This can for a number of reasons, usually though it's from moisture (saliva) contamination, meaning the tooth wasn't dry enough to bond, or that the tooth wasn't etched enough to bond. Don't be afraid to speak up. Gray elastics were put on you out of habit, since most patients will choose that for standard braces. You can have a rainbow of colors and you can change them each time you go in to the office. If you ask nicely (or get another hygienist) she may change the elastics, especially since she has to take the wires off anyway to repair the brackets. Good luck to you.
