Question:

Breaking brackets (please read)?

I got braces december 11 and within 3 days I felt the wire pop out and a bracket came off. Now today I woke up and another bracket was off. My ortho only replaces 3 before they start charging us and I'm worried they will count them both against me and I'll only have 1 replacement left. Will the orthodontist be mad at me? I dont have them fixed either cuz they cant get me in until January 1 or 8.Do you think they will count these against me? and do you know any ways I can keep the brackets from breaking because I'm scared I'll lose more and it's been less than a month.

Answer:

As long as you are not chewing sticky or hard foods, like gum or popcorn then it isn't your fault. They shouldn't being popping off that fast. When I got my braces off I had a permanent retainer glued to my bottom teeth and it popped off the day they put it it. I just went back and they didn't charge me anything because they hadn't glued it properly in the first place. It sounds like that's what's happened to you. Just watch what you eat ( no apples unless they're cut up, no popcorn, hard candy, caramel, chewing gum) that way they can't blame it on you. Good luck and I hope that helped
It depends on the orthodontist, and your insurance. My insurance allowed 10 before we got charged, but she let it go longer b/c i kept braking brackets when i first got my braces. If they are just popping off without you eating or messing with anything she prob. didnt use a strong enough cement or they are too tight and your orthodontist wants to rush the process along already. You should talk to your mom because some orthodontists just want your money. Don't think the worst , just be extra careful and try not to eat anything hard.
If these brackets are coming off because of what you are eating (and you should have been told what foods to avoid) then I don't think your orthodontist will forgive you and count it against you. But if the brackets are coming off because of your bite (the way your teeth are coming together), then he should not and also make you a biteplate to wear temporarily. Don't be afraid that your orthodontist will be mad at your; I am sure you are not the only one this is happening to. It's part of the job to expect situations like this to happen.
He shouldnt charge u if its like an accident they put the braces on too tight probably and u need to adjust
They will defietly count them and also you probably broke them by eating sticky food like gum or Starburst or hard food like raw carrots or chips or pizza crust. You need to be careful about what you eat when you have braces. Here is a site that might help you out.
