Question:

Calcite vs. quartz, which makes better jewelry?

Would you rather how calcite as jewelry or quartz? Why?

Answer:

Marketing gimmick, doesn't mean anything. .
Much less than you'd think. It has nothing to do directly with the heating (an infrared heater). The quartz (silica) is just a tube that encases the actual heating element - quartz is a terrible conductor of heat, so it's a good insulator. It's the heating element that produces the tuned wavelength of infrared light. All that the quartz does is to protect the heating element from damage, and keeping any heat from escaping instead of being used in the heater.
