Question:

Camera that preforms well in low light?

I'd like to invest in a digital camera that preforms well in low light situations. I'm currently using a Canon A590 which is great for outdoor things, but does very poorly with indoor/cloudy situations. Any recommendations?

Answer:

Yes, I also think a DSLR is the next step. Below I listed some links where you can read reviews, compare features, and see sample images about these cameras. Nikon and Canon are the big 2 brands out there and both make excellent cameras. Also Sony seems to be gaining ground and makes some excelletnt cameras. Good luck. Mark
depending on how much you want to spend... if low light is your main concern, you should be investing into a full-frame DSLR... currently the cheapest full-frame camera on the market is the Sony a850 at a little less under $2000 after that, buy the Sony/Minolta 50mm f1.4 lens at around $250-$300 and you have one beast of a low-light setup...
I suggest the Canon SD780 IS. If you raise the ISO setting it will give a better image quality in low light than most point and shoot cameras without spending big bucks on a DSLR.
I can't afford one yet either, but the new Canon, 1D mark lV, shoots at ISO 102400. So if you've got an extra 5K kicking around........
Your best bet would probably be a DSLR and a lens with a wide aperture. I would recommend the Canon Rebel XS (about $500 or less), which is a great entry-level DSLR. A good lens for low-light photography would be the Canon 50mm f/1.8 ($100). If you don't have the money for a DSLR, an advanced point-and-shoot with manual exposure controls could get the job done. I would suggest the Canon PowerShot G11. If you don't understand exposure yet, here's a good place to read about it: photo /learn/making-photograph...
