Question:

Can a card reader read any type of memory card?

i just bought a card reader: Targus (high speed MS/MS Pro/ MS Duo card reader/writer ) but my memory card refuses to slid in, i don't know if i am to force it in (which they stated explicity on the packet not to) or if something is not right. My card is : Sansdisk 1.0GB (9 slots). is there a specific type of card reader for this or .?

Answer:

There are many different types and form factors of memory cards including memory sticks, secure digital, mini SD, memory stick Pro, and MMC to name a few. A 15 in 1 memory card reader will read 15 different types and/or form factors of memory cards but you need to know which ones it will read and ensure that whatever you use is compatible.
fhotoace is correct. Your Targus is designed to read only MemoryStick/MemoryStick Pro/MemoryStick Duo cards that are used exclusively by Sony cameras. This is one of the reasons I advise against Sony and their proprietory memory cards. Most likely, you have a camera that uses SD cards (the most common type) and should seek out another memory card reader. My recommendation? Get a memory card reader that accepts multiple types of cards. That way, it will work with any card you have. This allows you to download from your current and any future camera. You can also download from memory cards from your friends' cameras as well!
